Dispatchers
Dispatchers work every eighth day and may work either day, evening or night tours. This job requires good hearing, legible handwriting or printing, as well as the ability to work under pressure and quickly. Their job entails varied duties. These are:
- Answering the Emergency Line, obtaining the necessary information for dispatching the team to the required location
- Contacting Hillsborough County Fire Rescue for assistance, if needed
- Taking calls forwarded from the front office for non-emergency transport mostly by van, or sometimes by ambulance
- Keeping a record of the van transports on the van board for their information as well as other teams information
- Talking to both ambulance and van personnel on the radio and recording the time when they report pertinent information
No prior training is required. Volunteers for this duty are trained for all aspects of this job. It is an interesting, varied job, and you will get to meet new friends on the team. This is one of the most important jobs on the squad.
